My spatial installations blend media like film, video, textiles, and photography to probe the subjective lens of perception. I’m captivated by how imagination poetically shapes perception. Our view of the world is molded by desire. Reality emerges in my work as a interplay of the real and the imagined, revealing a third dimension: an inner realm where emotion, desire, imagination, experience, and memory intertwine.
In my films, it’s not about what happens in linear time, but how reality is experienced, capturing characters’ emotions, desires, dreams, and thoughts in vivid, tangible ways. Capturing these moments lets me probe the perceptions of humans, animals, plants, and microbes—and the intricate bonds between them.

As a multimedia artist, she blends photography, film, textiles, performance, and installations to explore the interplay of reality, imagination, and perception. Her work has been exhibited globally, at venues like Kunsthal KAdE (Amersfoort, NL), Museum Dr. Guislain (Ghent, BE), Kunstmuseum Bonn (DE), the National Museum of Women in the Arts (Washington, US), and Youkobo Art Space (Tokyo, JP). She has held residencies, including at Kings County Hospital’s psychiatric ward in New York (2016), and elsewhere, enriching her perspective on human experience and nature.

Karhof’s accolades include the BNG Workspace Award (2012) for ‘Inner Space/Outer Space’, the Screengrab International New Media Arts Award (2013) for ‘Vessel’, and the FBZ Special Award (2022) for her monumental tapestry “Reality is a Fingerprint”, a title drawn from an interview quote. Through her art, she probes humanity’s complex bond with nature, inviting viewers into poetic, subjective realms.
