‘Organic fusion’ is Karhof’s contribution to the exhibition ‘Skylarking’ - part II. The installation ‘Organic fusion’ consisted of eleven pillars placed in a narrow passageway. At the top of the columns one could see the beginning of the crown of a tree. After the visitors had crossed the pillars one would see a monitor which showed a video image of themselves, eleven seconds back in time. They could see themselves zigzagging between the columns and ultimately passing by, as if they appear from a forest.
The works focus on how the organic and its integration in space is perceived, by isolating and re-contextualizing a specific experience. Two opposites are merged within a new spatial form, embedding an imagined reality in the physical world.
‘Skylarking’, both part I and II, are environmental installations respectively made for ‘The Compressie Ruimte’ and for ‘Playstation’ (project space of gallery ‘Fons Welters’). Yasmijn Karhof, Lucas Lenglet, Govinda Mens and Nicky Zwaan initiated both projects right after their graduation from the Rietveld academy.
