exhibition Skylarking, Compressie Ruimte, Amsterdam, The Netherlands
‘Suit2’ is Karhof’s contribution to the exhibition ‘Skylarking’ - part I. ‘Suit2’ is presented by one family. They own one three-piece suit and underwear, fitting the grandfather in a regular way. The other members of the family can wear all of his clothes turned upside down, and so the suit provides clothes for the whole family.
During the exhibition ‘Skylarking’ the family was present in the installation and they changed their clothes from time to time. Every now and then the grandfather took off a piece of his costume. He would give these separate pieces of the clothes to the other members of the family. They would put it on in such a way that the clothes got different functions. For example a slip becomes a top and a trousers a jacket.
Skylarking, both part I and II, are environmental installations respectively made for ‘The Compressie Ruimte’ and for ‘Playstation’ (project space of gallery ‘Fons Welters’). Yasmijn Karhof, Lucas Lenglet, Govinda Mens and Nicky Zwaan initiated both projects right after their graduation from the Rietveld academy.
